Born in Naples in 1975, Gigi Cifali is a photographer based in Milan and London, where he earned a Master’s degree in Photojournalism from the University of Westminster. He has been awarded and highly mentioned several times: AOP Photographers Awards, IPA International Photography Awards - Lucie Foundation, Fuji Photo Awards, Calumet Assistant Photo Awards, London Photographic Association - Photography Competition.The “Absence of Water” series work has been selected as winner of the IPA International Photography Awards 2009 for the Architecture and Historic category and it now belongs to the François Schneider Foundation Collection.In November 2015, a narrative exhibition, curated by Gianluigi Ricuperati, presented a preview of twelve images of the photography series “Images and Signs: Italy, 1969-89. Practices of Memory” on the so-called years of lead. The work investigates the mechanisms that regulate the transmission of collective memory and reflect on the role of the archives. It has been featured in the book “un’apparizione di superfici” by Luca Panaro published in 2017.His photographs have been featured in international magazines.
